Sit a paper label in that environment, and the facestock absorbs moisture continuously. Fibres swell. Ink softens. The label starts to look tired long before the product sells.

The adhesive suffers too. Moisture works its way under the edges, and once it gets a foothold, lifting spreads inward from the corners.

Three things tend to go wrong:

  • Colour dulling, particularly on darker printed areas

  • Laminate protects the print, not the adhesive.

Perhaps the most useful thing to remember is that finish and material work together. A good material with no finish still struggles.

Leave them for four weeks. Check the corners, check the colour, check whether the surface scuffs when you rub it.
